I was sorry to see news of the fire at my old school yesterday, in the very building in which I learned my Technical Drawing and decided to become an architect (left). Very sad. But how badly was it damaged, I wondered?
School blaze probed Herald Thursday May 03, 2007
Fire Safety is investigating the cause of a blaze that damaged a technical block at Otahuhu College yesterday. More than 40 firefighters rushed to the college about 11am when the fire broke out in the roof.
No one was hurt and the fire was soon extinguished. The deputy chief fire officer for Auckland east, Roger Callister, said fire damage was contained to two classrooms. He said the building had no sprinklers and firefighters had trouble getting a good water supply until fire trucks began pumping water from the street.
